Planting, tending, harvesting, roasting – it takes a lot of effort to get coffee from the plant to the cup. What a pity it would be if the enjoyment on the “last meters” is marred by improper storage. But don’t worry – with these tips you can keep your coffee fresh and durable at home:
Consume quickly
Buy coffee in quantities that you will also consume in the foreseeable future: Beans within 3 months after roasting, ground coffee within 10-14 days.
Open coffee storage
Store the coffee in the original packaging and close the aroma valve bag again using the pressure cap immediately after removal. Because: With every contact with the air, an aroma escapes. You can prevent this if, when closing the package through the aroma valve, you also press out the excess air and thus the oxygen.
Storage of unopened coffees
Here, the storage temperature should be just below 20 degrees. Please also avoid moisture during storage. Leave the opened product in its original packaging. If you want, put them in a coffee can in addition – but in any case do not pour it. Also, please do not put the package in the sun or in the spice rack: the coffee very easily absorbs other odors.
Store coffee in the refrigerator?
It’s probably an urban myth – but we say quite clearly: No! The coffee quickly takes on numerous other odors in the refrigerator. In addition, condensation can collect in the coffee bag due to the temperature differences.
Can I freeze coffee?
If you can’t avoid it, you can also freeze coffee beans to preserve them for a long time. Important: Do not simply place the package in the freezer, but pour the beans into an airtight container. When thawing, make sure the beans stay in the airtight container and thaw at normal room temperature.
What is the shelf life of coffee beans?
There’s a saying about champagne: the best time to drink it is now. It is the same with our coffees. Because with each day and each opening of the package they lose a little flavor, which in turn reduces the pleasure. We therefore recommend that the coffee be consumed quickly after opening. Nevertheless, it will keep longer – we have printed a best-before date for you on each package.
